Autumn mood & style

Something happens to the wardrobe when autumn arrives. We crave layers. More texture. A bit more weight. And perhaps even wearing our clothes in new ways.

At Black Colour, autumn doesn't mean packing away the colors and blending in with the grey weather. On the contrary, this is where the contrasts become truly interesting. When something soft meets something vibrant. When a calm base is joined by a print. When multiple layers make an outfit more personal – not more complicated.

For us, autumn style is therefore less about rules and more about the feeling of a new season.

When the wardrobe gets more layers

Autumn is layering season. Not only because the temperature calls for it, but because more layers offer more opportunities to play with your look.

A shirt can peek out from under a knit. A cardigan can be the extra layer over a dress. A scarf can be added when the outfit is missing that final little something. And colors and prints don’t have to stand alone – they can actually become even more fun when they meet something more toned down.

That is also how we like to think about wardrobes at Black Colour: Not as ready-made uniforms, but as pieces that can be moved around, mixed, and given new life in different combinations.

Scandinavian style – but our way

Scandinavian style is often associated with the simple, understated, and minimalist. And there is certainly something about that effortless approach that we love.

But Black Colour has never felt a great need to tone things down.

Our version of Scandinavian style is allowed to have some color in its cheeks. It is allowed to have a print that gets noticed, a quirky detail, or a scarf that transforms the entire outfit. It is also allowed to be comfortable, easy to wear, and capable of being mixed and matched.

The one does not exclude the other.

A calm base can easily have personality. And a colorful element does not need to take over the entire look. The interesting part often lies right in between.

Perhaps that is also our answer to scandi style: keep the simplicity, but make it your own.

The colors don't disappear, just because summer does

Autumn colors don't have to follow a specific
recipe.

We like the idea of letting colors be a part of the wardrobe all year round – and letting the way we combine them change with the season. A bold color can be given more space to breathe. A print can emerge between the layers. And a simple combination can get more energy from a single detail.

If you usually stick to a more muted wardrobe, you don't need to start with color from head to toe, either. Start with one thing. A scarf. A blouse. A cardigan. A pattern that just breaks things up a little.

We have gathered more ideas for just that in our
guide to colors in the wardrobe.

Texture brings something special to autumn

Autumn is not just about colors. It is just as much about textures and contrasts.

When several layers come into play, the differences between them become clearer. The smooth against the soft. The simple against the patterned. The relaxed against a detail that adds a little spark to the rest.

This is where an outfit can become exciting, even when the color palette is relatively calm.

And perhaps that is one of the things we love most about the season: You don't have to choose between the practical and the personal. The two things can easily coexist in the same outfit.

The final layer can be a bit noisy

Sometimes an autumn outfit is just missing one thing.

A patterned scarf. A belt. Jewelry. A detail that doesn't necessarily match everything else perfectly – but makes the look more you.

Accessories are also an easy way to change the expression without having to replace your entire wardrobe for the season. The same base can go in several directions depending on what you pair it with.

Autumn the Black Colour way

For us, autumn is not an occasion to become more serious.

It is the season to keep building. To add another layer. To mix the familiar with something surprising. To use colors in new ways and let your wardrobe follow both the temperature and your mood.

A minimalist wardrobe might be right for some. Lots of prints might be right for others. And most of us are likely somewhere in between.

The most important thing is not whether your style can be put into the right box.

The most important thing is that you can see yourself in it.

And if autumn makes you want to try something new, this season's current styles can be found among our new arrivals.
